LUNAFEST: Short Films | by and about women.

LUNAFEST was the first all-women traveling film festival to hit the circuit and amplify the voices of strong women everywhere. The first event was a small yet hopeful screening in California. Today, there are screenings in more than 175 cities across the nation, showcasing the work of talented female directors.” LUNAFEST is making a mark in the industry by creating a platform for women’s untold stories and working to increase opportunity for women filmmakers. 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of LUNAFEST!

In order to support the City Council goal of building community through social and cultural events, the City of Brisbane will be hosting its third annual LUNAFEST screening on Saturday, September 25th, 2021 outdoors under the stars on the Brisbane Elementary School campus (500 San Bruno Avenue). This special screening also marks the 20th anniversary of LUNAFEST. Through a partnership with the Brisbane Lions Club, event proceeds will go towards scholarships for young women pursuing degrees in male-dominated fields. This year’s festivities will incorporate two screening options: an evening showing, and a virtual screening.


General admission tickets for the outdoor evening screening are $20/person. The event will begin at 7:00pm and the screening will start promptly at 7:30pm. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as concessions will be available for purchase with all proceeds being donated to the Lions Club scholarship fund. Event disclaimers:

-The screening will be held on the upper BES field and seating will not be provided. Eventgoers are advised to bring their own chairs & blankets for comfort.

-Event capacity may be restricted to ensure proper distancing of groups during the film.

-Advance ticket purchasing is strongly encouraged.

-Ages18 & up only. Children are prohibited from being onsite for the evening screening. Childcare is available that evening through the Brisbane Parks & Recreation department. Please visit the for more information.

For those who want to support the event but wish to do so virtually, we will have the option to purchase a virtual screening ticket. Tickets are $20 and you’ll be able to screen the films from the comfort of your own home. Virtual attendees will be sent a 48-hour live access link and instructions prior.
